Bill proposed – Leave for parent-teacher interviews

The Holidays (Parent-Teacher Interview Leave) Amendment Bill (Bill) was introduced to Parliament and is due to complete its First Reading.

Bill details

The Bill, if passed, would amend the Holidays Act 2003 (Act) to allow employees who are parents of children to take leave to attend parent-teacher interviews for up to four paid hours in each 12-month period, during their normal working hours.

Message for Employers

We will keep you posted on any updates to the Bill as it progresses through Parliament. If the proposed changes come in to force, you will need to reflect on your leave clauses in employment agreements and leave policies to ensure they accurately reflect minimum entitlements.
