- Conducting independent investigations, including to establish the facts where a complaint is made, or where conflicting accounts of an incident are given. Using an independent investigator ensures:
- Sufficient resourcing of the investigation;
- Fairness to all parties, including complainants, witnesses, and the person/s complained about;
- Speedy completion of the investigation
- Strict confidentiality; and
- Reliable findings which can be used to take further action, including disciplinary action.
